Diesel Heater Install Guide

This is everything you need to stay warm in your van. We've got a great video to help you with DIY fitment, and some of the things you need to get, to safely fit a diesel heater to your caravan, campervan, motorhome or van build.

5kw Heater

For a small to medium caravan, van, motorhome or campervan up to around 7m long, this is the recommended size to heat the living area.

A great choice if you want strong heat output without moving up to the larger 8kw unit.

8kw Heater

This is the more powerful heater option and is suited to larger spaces that need more heat.

It is also described on your guide page as bluetooth compatible.

Power Cable

You will need red and black cable running from the battery to the diesel heater.

Around 9m / 30ft of each is noted as enough for many setups depending on battery and controller placement.

Terminal Spades / Connectors

You only need a couple to connect the heater up, but buying a full set gives you extras for later electrical jobs.

A handy, low-cost item that is useful well beyond this install.

Inline Fuses

A fuse on the live lead between the battery and your 12v appliance is an essential part of the fitting process.

This helps protect against overheated wiring and fire risk.

Auto Fire Off

These automatic fire extinguishing balls are a smart added layer of protection.

A useful safety addition to place near diesel and other potential fire-risk areas.

Heat Shield / Mounting Guard

This guard is essential when installing directly onto timber, plywood or composite flooring.

The image links to the 30mm guard, and the buttons below give you the three floor-depth options.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm

If you are running any fuel-burning heater inside an enclosed space, this is a must-have safety item.

One of the most important products on the whole list.

External Switch

Diesel heater remotes are generic enough that nearby users can potentially trigger yours.

This adds a simple physical safeguard so your heater stays off until you want it on.

Cable Ties

These are used to suspend the pump under the vehicle and reduce vibration against the chassis.

A simple item that can make a big difference to noise and tidiness.

Sound Deadening Foam

Wrap this tightly around the pump to help quieten it down.

It also adds a bit of extra moisture protection and can help if mounted near an exhaust system.

Fibre Tape

This is the finishing item for securing the foam wrap tightly and neatly around the pump.

A small but useful final piece to keep the install clean.
